So who will be playing the lead and other roles in Abrams new monster epic? The process was unusual in the way no scripts were sent out and actors were asked if they wanted to be in the movie directly through their agents.
The lead role will be Michael Stahl-David. Reported by Entertainment Weekly on 26th July. Stahl-David is relatively unknown, much like the whole cast, and played Sean Donnelly in ‘The Black Donnellys’, an american tv drama on NBC.
The rest of the cast are
Odette Yustman (Kindergarten Cop), Mike Vogel (Supercross), Lizzy Caplan (The Class), (source: Holywood Reporter) Greg Grunberg currently starring as Matt Parkman in a tv sci-fi drama ‘Heroes’ on NBC, (source: TVGuide) Blake Lively who starred in an amercian film ’The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants’ (source: New York Post)
The latest theory on the title of Abrams new film seems to be ‘Overnight’, as suggest by poster Malemunyon. This title has sprung from the ‘fact’ (I have checked it at USPTO and it does exist) the Group One Productions have registered a trademark ’Overnight’ on July 18th 2007 #77232885 for the use of a ‘motion picture’.
Now if you were going to release a big blockbuster with countless spin offs you would defiantly get the trademark sorted wouldn’t you. However it isn’t necessary the old trademark they’ve registered.
However the information is strengthened with the fact that the Attorney of Record is Lori N. Boatright who was also the attorney for ‘Slusho!’ and ‘Bad Robot’.
Where is the connection between this and J.J.Abrams I hear you ask? Well Wertheimer Austen Mandelbaum & Morris represent Abrams and are also the registrant for the above. I think it’s a weak link but a link neither the less.
On a plus note the trailer does suggest at the end that it’s ‘Going to be the Best Night Ever’ and it does sound like a good title of it.
I think I’ll test the theory and release a few t-shirts with different titles to the film and see which one I get sued for!?
Well if you haven’t already worked it out the first thing you need to know is it stands for 18th January 2008, the release date of the film. The trailer has been showing in the
UK mainly before the new Transformers movie. The trailer it self (below) starts off with a leaving party at an office filmed like a home movie (but better put to together than Blair Witch!) and is just of people enjoying themselves.
Then, all of a suddenly the earth tremors and the lights go out. When they come back on everyone is panicking and start to rush outside to see what’s going on…Now if you haven’t seen it I’ll pause a minute so that you can see it for yourself:
Now for the benefit of the people who are just reading on, there’s always one!. They run outside, where you now notice it’s in New York, just in time to see a very large explosion way downtown
Manhattan. A few more explosions and large bits of debris flying around the trailer finishes with the head from the statue of liberty falling from the sky.It then tells you it’s a forthcoming film by JJ Abrams and that it. No title, nothing. As you’d expect there are a lot of people wanting to know more, which is probably why you’ve ended up here. Well the word on the web, and not all of it true, is that it’s a new monster movie similar to Godzilla but not, as we’re told they want to give the USA their own monster just like Japan has.If you search around more there’s plenty of questioning every bit of the trailer to find our anything and even making connections with other similarly weird sites however nothing more substantial is known at the moment. You can visit the official website of www.1-18-08.com but all you’ll find are some photographs. Closer examination will show you times they were taken and you can move them around by dragging them. If you’re clever enough you can flip them over to reveal a message on the back.
The movie has also been reported to be called Cloverfield but as far as we know these are working titles and the name is yet to be revealed. If Abrams TV series of Lost is anything to go by with will get little snippets of information but it will only confuse us even more. The look, abilities, origin and name of the ‘monster’, if there is one, is eagerly awaited. I just hope the film has a conclusion and doesn’t leave us walking away think ‘What the hell was that about’ and needing a second or third movie to explain it all!
